Ooty, Heaven on the Hill

Here I want to share my Ooty tour experience through Ooty train and my view about Ooty .Also see my exclusive Ooty photos.

The captain of Nilgiri hill, Ooty is one of the most important high range tourist place in South India. The land will attract lovers of natural beauty. Ooty is 105 Km away from Coimbatore city and the land is also known as the Queen of all hill stations. The height varies from 2280 to 2290 meters. It attracts the tourists by its charming flowers. Lofty mountains, dense forest, acres and acres of tea estates are green feast for the eyes of the tourist.

The most interesting and attracting thing is the hill way ooty train. The train starts its journey from Metupalayam  railway station and ends up at Udagamandalam or Ooty railway station. From Metupalayam to the Coonoor railway station, the rail is broad gauge and it contains rack and pinion system because it works on coal engine and roving the Nilgiri mountain.

At the Coonoor station it changes the engine from coal to diesel and  two more compartments are added along with the three compartments which already connected to the train From Metupalayam. And the train will run some fast from Coonoor to the Ooty. It is a journey of almost 5 hours. Also there will be 6 railway stations in between Metupalayam and Ooty. The first station is Hillgroove. But before reaching Hillgroove their will be two halts for cooling the coal engine by water. And the both stops are view points. We can see the hill view and take photographs.

The second stop is Coonoor . There will be some waiting for changing the engine and add two bogies. After that train will run fast with the diesel engine through the broad gauge rail without rack and pinion. The train will start at 7.10 am after reaching Blue mountain express from Coimbatore and it will reach at Ooty on 12 noon.
